My illustration goals can be summed up in just two words, "Draw everyday", and those two words played a big role in the foundation of Robot Friday. Since childhood, drawing has always been a big part of my life, but as I built a semi-unrewarding graphic design career I found that I began to neglect drawing altogether and as my graphic design interests began to fade I started to search for a more rewarding creative outlet.
In years prior I had created one of the internet's first motion comics and had some success with it in terms of readership, but as technology advanced and my design career became more demanding (and the web comics community became more toxic) I decided to leave comics for a while. My love for the medium always remained, however, and years later as I looked beyond graphic design for creatitve fulfillment, and an outlet to vent frustrations with my chosen profession, I found a renewed interest in creating comics once more.
I began development on Robot Friday a full year before I starting posting strips online. Part of this development time was learning how to create the website I would need to host the comic and part of this time was also used to actually draw the strips. It was during the drawing of the strips that I realized just how rusty my illustration skills had become and that making a comic strip may not be as easy as I had once thought. It was clear that I was going to need to put a lot of time, effort and thought into how the characters looked, as well as, who they were. So, my "draw everyday" mantra was born and it has served me well ever since.
