Robot Friday began like any other web comic, with a name and a URL. But unlike other web comics, Robot Friday's name and URL were born long before the characters were. Years before Robot Friday, I created an action adventure comic that pushed the boundaries of what could be done with comics and the new technology of the internet and for my first foray into web comics it was a mild success. Unfortunately technology outpaced my drive to create on a scale needed to push this new form of comics forward and the project fell apart.

I distanced myself from web comics and the volatile culture that surrounded them during the early years of the turn of the century and fully emersed myself in my prmary career as a graphic designer, but my love of comics and of illustration still remained and I tried my best to put to good use both of these interests whenever possible in my design work. It was during this time that I began teaching myself web design and coding and created several personal websites to house an ever growing inventory of graphic design and illustration projects. One such project was Robot Friday for which I acquired the namesake URL through the same hosting company that had housed my previous web comic project and my, then current, internet entities.
The idea of this version of Robot Friday was a sort of rip off of the same idea the fine folks at Illustration Friday had at the time. I was going to create a website whereby anyone could draw and post a robot each Friday of every week. Keep in mind that this was well before any social media platform existed and user generated content was just gaining steam, but again, I lacked the drive or skills to bring this project to fruition as well and the Robot Friday URL languished unused.
Many years later, frustration and burnout in my graphic design career lead to the need for a productive and creative venting outlet. Social media had taken off and web comics had become more accessible and plentiful on these platforms so I decided to revisit my love for the medium and, using myself and other creative friends as characters, I sat down to write dozens of comic strips ranting about pet peeves and client quanderies I had or was currently experiencing in my years as a graphic designer. The final piece of the puzzle was to name my new comic strip and launch it for the world to see and thanks to years of false starts and failed projects I had the perfect vehicle for both.
